Athletic fell to a 4-2 defeat to Grantham Town despite taking the lead inside six minutes on Monday.
Gavin Allott scored after sending Ryan Williams down the right of the box before meeting his cross at the back post to head in.
However, Grantham equalised on 18 minutes when Ben Fairclough’s cross to the far post was side-footed in by the unmarked Sam Purcicoe.
The visitors took the lead in the 33rd minute when Liam Dickens’ 25 yard free-kick took a deflection off the wall and found its way past Simpson.
Hesitancy in the Blues’ defence saw Jack McGovern pick out the run of Alex Simmons who steered the ball in to put Grantham 3-1 up on 72 minutes.
Allott and substitute Brad Riley then combined on the edge of the box for Allott to beat Deon Meikle and place the ball past Turner.
Hopes of a late equaliser were extinguished three minutes later when a poor clearance saw Grantham substitute Jordan Hempenstall collect, and sidestep Simpson and fire into an empty net.
