It’s finally here, the new season is upon us.
Paul Dickov has been allowed to sign his own players without any outside interference and based on what we have seen in pre-season, he has made some good choices.
Most exciting, however, has been the emergence of homegrown midfielder Harry Middleton.
He showed so much potential in the warm-up games, especially against Sunderland, and looks like a rising star.
If we can get the front two firing on all cylinders, Paul’s got a healthy dilemma in terms of picking the team.
Andy Williams and Nathan Tyson would appear to be in pole position for the striking roles, or has Curtis Main showed enough in pre-season to give him a starting role?
The results in pre-season have been promising. The victory over a near full strength Sunderland side fills me with confidence.
Rob Jones seems to have got back to full fitness and could form a brilliant partnership with Andy Butler, with Gary MacKenzie challenging.
I think Luke McCullough has looked good at right back, with Mitchell Lund also vying for that position.
Cedric Evina has also returned looking like a different player.
The team looks balanced but we are there to be shot at.
If we can keep clear of suspensions and injuries I believe we will be challenging for promotion.
It’s going to be competitive for positions that’s for sure.
There seems to a feel-good factor around the place and the atmosphere is improving in the stands too, thanks to the launch of the Blank Bank which is turning our library of a ground into a cauldron of noise.
There is one certain way to improve the atmosphere: results!
Other teams have strengthened as well so it will be a hard league to win.
Let’s all get behind Paul and the team.
