Darren Ferguson has called on his side to give themselves a platform in his first home game in charge.
Rovers have gone behind within the first ten minutes in four of their last six games.
And Ferguson wants to see his team start the game at home to Colchester United today in better fashion.
“We’ve got to start getting clean sheets. We can’t keep on conceding goals,” said Ferguson.
“If you look at the games recently Bradford scored after 40 seconds, Peterborough nine minutes, Millwall eight minutes, you’re giving yourself a hard time.
“What you see then is you’re chasing the game even more and you’re open to the counter attack.
“So we have to have a platform.
“You’ve got to be careful as a manager because if you keep mentioning it, psychologically it becomes a problem.
“So mention it, deal with it, sort it out.
“But we need to give ourselves a chance. It’s important we start games better than we have done.”
Today’s opponents Colchester, who sit 15th in League One, have scored more goals than any other side in the bottom half of the table but also have the worst defensive record in the division.
“The score could be anything,” joked Ferguson.
“I’ve seen them live at Bramall Lane this season and on that performance they were one of the best teams I’ve seen.
“They’re very good on the counter attack, they have a lot of pace and good footballers in midfield.
“I think it’s important we concentrate on what we were good at at Millwall and be better at it.
“We have to start getting clean sheets. It gives you a right chance.”
