Championship side Huddersfield Town became the latest club to be linked with a move for midfielder this week and it is understood there is genuine interest from Terriers boss Danny Cowley.

Around a dozen sides have expressed interest in the 23-year-old since the summer, when bids were rejected from Hull City, managed by former Rovers boss Grant McCann.

But Rovers have yet to receive any firm offers for Whiteman, who signed a new three and a half year contract last month.

The captain says speculation over his future has become a fact of life but he insists his focus on performing for Rovers will not be diminished.

“I think there’s always going to be now,” he told the Free Press.

“The way that I’ve been playing and performing over the last 18 months and warranted that.

“You’ve just got keep your head down and I know it’s going to sound cliche but you’ve just got to put it to the back of your mind and try to forget about it.

“My full focus in on Doncaster Rovers.”

Whiteman says he appreciates the overwhelmingly positive reaction to his new contract and wants to repay in kind the support.

“It’s been lovely,” he said.

“It’s really nice to hear things what people have been saying about me and hopefully I can repay the faith shown in me with performances and a successful season.”
