Paul Dickov refutes any suggestion that he ‘does not have a Plan B’.

The Scot readily admits his side have lacked a degree of physicality this term and it is something he is considering addressing in the close season.

But Rovers’ boss has appeared to baulk at any suggestion of a lack of tactical flexibility.

Dickov was asked at a recent press conference whether more physicality would provide a ‘Plan B’ - only for him to then spell out examples of games in which his tactical changes led to Rovers winning points.

He replied: “No. People talk about Plan As, Bs, Cs, Ds and everything else.

“We’ve changed numerous times within games this year and gone on to pick up points.

“The Leyton Orient game was a prime example.

“We changed it at half time at 0-0 and went on to win the game.

“We can go back to Preston, we can go back to Oldham, there’s lots of games this year when we’ve done that and went on to do well.

“That’s not just to do with physicality,” he added.

“I don’t want to stress the physicality too much because a lot of it is to do with the mentality of the players as well.”

Dickov, meanwhile, was due to discover the extent of his playing budget for next season this week, and the Scot admits he would like a bigger squad to pick from.

Notably, Rovers’ bench during the first few months of the current season was predominantly made up of youngsters.

Asked by The Star if he would like more bodies to choose from, Dickov said: “I think so.

“That’s nothing against any of the players that have been here this year.

“I wouldn’t say we need more senior pros. I think we need more players that know how to manage games and see out games.”
