Harry Forrester is a doubt for tomorrow’s game against Middlesbrough.

After bursting onto the scene following a collection of injuries, the Rovers forward has recently been sidelined with an ankle problem.

Dickov said Forrester was due to see a specialist yesterday for an injection.

“He’ll be doubtful for Saturday,” said the Scotsman.

“He’s been unlucky. I’ve spoken to him about it and he’s a little bit embarrassed to tell people that he’s injured again. He’s nearly there.”

Elsewhere, Dickov believes that with his current backline, that can only do good for the likes of long-term defensive absentees Rob Jones and Jamie McCombe.

“It’s hard for all the players in the team at the moment which is good. Competition for places is good, I’ve not had that for a while,” he said.

“I’m now able to put players in the team who know that they have to perform to stay in the team and the others know that they have to perform when they get a chance.

“It creates a healty atmosphere in the club because everybody is striving to get in the first 11.

“The players know that if the team does well, we’ll keep them in the team.

“Making one change for Blackpool and then keeping the same team for Charlton has been nice to do. Having that continuity is something we haven’t been able to do.”

On Jones, he said: “Rob’s played a part in the game on Wednesday but it looks like he’s twisted his knee. We’re hopeful that it’s not too bad.

“We gave him 45 minutes on Wednesday and we’ll give him 90 minutes next week against Port Vale so we’ll see how it goes.”

On McCombe’s back problem, Dickov added: “He’s had a slight problem with his hamstring which he’s had before which has come from his back problem. We’ve just got to be careful.”

Dickov has also been happy with Billy Sharp’s match fitness progress.
