Andy Williams is a fully deserving recipient of the League One player of the month award due to his excellent workrate.
That is the verdict of Rovers boss Darren Ferguson who lauded the striker after he was named the division’s top performer for December.
Williams netted four goals last month as Rovers continued their rise up the table.
“He fully deserves it,” Ferguson said.
“He’s a great lad who works his socks off.
“He was a little bit short of confidence a few months ago but as strikers do they come back to form and score goals.
“He’s scoring all different kinds of goals.
“That’s the good thing about Willo – he can score with his head, left foot and right foot.
“He deserves the award just because of the way he goes about his job.
“As a player I imagine he’s brilliant to play with because he’s always working hard, which helps the team.
“He fully deserves it. We’re all pleased for him.”
Williams saw off competition from Blackpool defender Tom Aldred, Walsall midfielder Adam Chambers and Burton Albion goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin to win the monthly prize.
His current run has seen him net ten goals in his last 12 appearances, moving on to 13 for the season.
