DONCASTER ROVERS: Fans line up to meet John Ryan

DONCASTER Rovers will hope to update fans on Dean Saunders’ search for players when they stage the Fans Forum next Monday.

In fact, such has been the demand for tickets that the club have now decided to hold two of the events on the same night.

Supporters at both will be eager to hear of the latest developments and what Saunders has in the pipeline.

A major intention is to bring in a good striker or two who will make an impact at League One level and if that means paying money then Saunders is prepared to do that.

He had asked for patience recently from the club’s followers because the nature of his signings may be affected by who moves out at tke Keepmoat.

But he has promised fans that he is seeking to get “good strikers” in and Monday’s meeting will be hoping to hear where the club is at with their recruitment possibilities.

Saunders said he acknowledged that it was frustrating for followers not to have landed anyone more than a month after the end of the season.

However, he said it wasn’t for the want of trying: “I’ve been busting a gut but also using all my contacts to try and get in good players without it costing us large sums of money,” he said.

The demand for tickets for Monday’s event at the Keepmoat, headed up by chairman John Ryan, has led to the club organising a “second sitting” at 7.15.

All the tickets for the 6.15 event have been snapped up and with the prospect of lots of disappointed fans, 400 tickets are now available for the 7.15 ‘repeat’.

The draw for the first round of the Capital One Cup - called the Carling Cup last season - will be made today.

Rovers are one of the seeded teams in the northern half of the first round draw. Yorkshire teams in the ‘other’ half of the draw include Rotherham United, newly-promoted York City and Bradford City so it is possible Rovers could get drawn against one of those. They will not be drawn against such as Leeds, either of the Sheffield clubs or Barnsley as they are seeded like Rovers.

The first round ties are in the midweek prior to the new league season on August 18. The fixtures for next season are out next Monday.
