Doncaster Rovers: Dickov calls for attacking variation

Rovers must be less one-dimensional when they face bottom side Yeovil Town tonight, Paul Dickov has warned.

This evening’s game pits two of the three lowest scoring teams in the Championship against each other.

And, as far as Doncaster are concerned, that’s a trend Dickov is desperate to reverse.

“We’ve been working hard on our attacking play,” he said.

“I said after the Barnsley game I was pleased with how we defended, but disappointed with how we used the ball.

“I want us to get back to where we were in the first ten games; playing on the front foot and getting after teams.

“That’s got to be the aim for tonight and the upcoming games.

“Regardless of the personnel and the formation, I want us to go out there and really get on the front foot. That’s when we are at our best.

“Some games, especially at home, teams might sit in, he added. But you have to work around that and not be too one dimensional.

“Earlier in the season we had a better variation to how we played, we got the ball wide, in behind teams and into the front men’s feet. We need to get back to that.

“To go back to the Barnsley game, and not have a shot on target, that’s not how I want my teams to play.”

Dickov has fresh injury concerns ahead of tonight, but refused to reveal who was struggling.

“We’ve had to wrap the lads in cotton wool a little bit this week,” he said.

“There’s a few that could be struggling, which is disappointing.”
