James Coppinger felt he was due a goal before Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup clash with Fulham.

And after netting spectacularly in the 2-1 defeat, the Rovers veteran is looking to hit the goal trail this season.

Coppinger got off the mark for the season when he thumped in a shot from a tight angle to get Rovers back in the game at Craven Cottage but they could not find the equaliser.

“I think I’ve played 415 and scored 42 goals so I’m due one every ten games,” the 33-year-old said.

“It’s been coming. I hit the bar last weekend and had a header saved.

“I made a conscious effort to try and score more goals and it’s been a bit frustrating so far.

“But I’ve just thought, keep doing it and keep getting in those positions and it will come.

“It did on Tuesday and hopefully there’ll be more to come.”

Rovers disappointed with their first half showing at Fulham but were on top for much of the second period and were somewhat unlucky to go out in normal time.

Coppinger believes his side can take great heart from the second half performance as they prepare for a trip to Walsall on Saturday.

He said: “We picked it up in the second half and we can go into Saturday’s game with a lot of confidence.

“We showed a lot of spirit, created a lot of chances.

“Hopefully we can do the same on Saturday and come back from Walsall with the three points.”
