Paul Dickov is aiming to make towering centre half Jean-Yves Mvoto his next signing.
Dickov has sounded out the Frenchman and his agent about a potential move to the Keepmoat when his current deal with Oldham expires on Monday.
He said: “I’ve spoken to Jean’s agent and he becomes available on July 1.
“I know Jean well. He’s big, he’s powerful, he’s strong and he can still learn.
“There’s a possibility there (of a deal) with Jean.”
Rovers could face competition for the 24-year-old’s signature with Birmingham City also reportedly interested.
Mvoto worked under Dickov at Oldham, impressing with commanding performances in the heart of defence.
He joined Oldham from Sunderland in June 2011 after an initial loan deal. The Black Cats brought Mvoto to England from Paris St Germain as a 19-year-old, with then-boss Roy Keane paying a reported £300,000.
Dickov expects most of his work in the transfer market to begin next week, once players’ contract have expired over the weekend.
