DONCASTER Rovers Belles lost interest in the FA Women’s Super League’s Continental Cup, going down1-0 at Everton in the second of their three pool games.
The winner came midway through the second half when keeper Mary Earps dropped a cross under pressure at the near post and the home side scored from close range.
“I wouldn’t blame Mary for the defeat because she’d made a couple of good saves before then,” said Belles’ boss John Buckley.
“We came in at 0-0 at half-time and although we’d being under a bit of pressure we’d defended well and had a couple of half chances.
“It was a fair result in the end but they team had given me everything. We just lack that cutting edge.
“Left-back Lucy Sowerby played well on her full debut before going off with a knee injury. She is only 16 and was up against an England international but gave a good account of herself. “
