FAWSL’s basement club Doncaster Rovers Belles are targeting a midtable finish, assistant manager Duncan Milligan has hinted.
The Belles have proved a difficult side to come up against since their 9-0 thrashing to Liverpool back in August, after picking up maximum points against Lincoln as well as a draw on Saturday with Everton.
Just a point separates the Belles and seventh-placed Lincoln Ladies with inconsistent Chelsea and Everton remaining in their sights as the 2013 domestic campaign nears to a close.
Belles face third-placed Bristol Academy Women on Sunday in their penultimate league match before ending a challenging season at home to Birmingham City Ladies on September 29.
Milligan was in confident mood ahead of their remaining fixtures.
Speaking after their point against Everton - a game he said they should have won, he said: “We’ve got a target in mind and if we can get the points that we’re looking for - never mind catching Lincoln up - we’re looking to catch up Chelsea and Everton and we will keep going. We’ll take it into the next two games.”
The Belles have met Mark Sampson’s Bristol outfit twice this season in the league and cup, both ending in defeat for Doncaster.
“They’re a good side and they’ve had a good season. But we’ve turned a corner and we’ve got to put that pressure on and take things from there,” Milligan added.
