The under-16s caused a league upset as they defeated table-topping Huddersfield Town, writes Marie Gibbs.
Goals from KD Roberts and Kesley O’Driscoll led the Belles to a comprehensive 2-0 win over their regional rivals.
They now lie just four points behind Huddersfield with three games in hand on Town in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls County League’s First Division.
The girls were hot off the mark at their new Campsmount surroundings and scored their first goal inside the opening two minutes.
The goal came following three well-worked passes before Roberts found the net.
This early goal spurred the girls on and Huddersfield found themselves facing sustained pressure from an on-fire Belles team.
Playing fluent football, the midfield did a superb job to stifle Huddersfield’s attacks as Doncaster’s wingers created several opportunities.
O’Driscoll doubled Belles’ advantage when she rifled a shot home with precision.
A plucky Town attempted their fight back after the restart but Belles’ defensive back four of Kelly Griffiths, Sophie Acaster, Carmen Vine and Kaitlyn Doncaster kept Huddersfield at bay.
Special mention went to Libby Challinor and Georgia Wattam for their displays.
