Cup kings up ‘four’ more silverware

Rotherham and District giants AFP have set their signts on a four-trophy season after retaining the Montagu Cup on Monday.

AFP, top of the Premier Division table, beat last year’s opponents Swinton WMC 2-0 to lift the trophy, with Martin Jones and Gavin Allott on the scoresheet.

AFP are in the semi-finals of the Rotherham Cup - and are still challenging for Association Cup glory, too.

“Our manager Geoff Swann has won 18 trophies in nine years now, but he’s not finished yet,” AFP secretary Malcolm Gabbitas said.

“We’ve won four trophies in a season twice, and hopefully we can repeat that feat this season and carry on our success.”

The game was marred by three red cards - for AFP’s Niki Williams and Rob Branagan, and Swinton sub Craig Morton.

AFP goalkeeper Paul Gratton was named man of the match, after saving a penalty from Swinton skipper Andrew Whitehead.
