BELLES will need to raise their game considerably if they want to be party poopers at Arsenal this weekend, according to boss John Buckley.

The unbeaten Gunners need just a point from Sunday’s televised game to retain their FA Women’s Super League crown.

Doncaster, meanwhile, go into their penultimate FA WSL match having been brought back down to earth by Birmingham City Ladies, who are the only side capable of beating Arsenal to the title.

Goals from Eni Aluko and Jodie Moore earned the Blues a comfortable 2-0 win at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday evening, ending the Belles’ three-game unbeaten run.

Buckley said: “They were the better side.

“I just think there were a lot of players who weren’t brave enough to receive the ball.

“What they have been doing, they didn’t do against Birmingham, which disappointed me.

“When you play these top sides, if you don’t work hard, that’s what will happen.

“We were giving them the ball back all the time.

“There wasn’t a great deal of quality from us at all,” he added.

“The bottom line is that we were beaten by the better side.”

Belles face Arsenal this weekend before ending their season at bottom side Liverpool, who are three points adrift of seventh placed Doncaster, on October 7.

Goal difference could still play an important role in deciding who finishes bottom of the table, meaning Belles will be keen to spring a surprise at Boreham Wood this weekend - or at the very least avoid a heavy defeat.

Sunday’s game will be broadcast live on ESPN from 4pm. The game kicks off at 4.30pm.
