Tom Bradshaw has flown to Hungary, fuelling the fire that he might now stay at Barnsley after all.

But speculation was rife on Saturday when the sought-after striker was omitted from the Reds’ 1-0 pre-season win over Salford City.

The Welsh international bagged a brace during the Barnsley first pre-season game and his absence was said to be down to a minor injury.

A trio of Championship clubs are chasing the hitman. Millwall have already had bids rejected, while Hull City and Reading are also understood to be interested.

The Reds are holding out for a substantial fee and are keen to retain the services of the marksman, despite him entering the final year of his contract at Oakwell.

Adam Davies was tested early on, before Mamadou Thiam headed wide from a dangerous in-swinging Alex Mowatt corner.

Boss Daniel Stendel was forced into two early changes in the first half with Liam Lindsay limping off, before Davies picked up a knock.

Ryan Hedges picked up the only goal of the game just after half an hour after controlling a cross-field ball, cutting onto his right foot and curling into the top corner.

Zeki Fryers was stretchered off as Stendel made a third injury-enforced substitution.

Hedges came close to doubling his tally when he volleyed against the bar after Kieffer Moore was denied.

Salford began to threaten after the break with Liam Hogan heading against the bar from Nick Haughton’s corner. And Walton pulled off a terrific stop to deny Haughton just before the hour.

Right at the death George Moncur fired against the inside of the post.

Meanwhile, the Reds’ pre-season tour begins today.

Stendel’s side have headed to the Hungarian capital for the second successive year for an intensive week-long camp.

The Reds will take on second-tier side Budaorsi SC in their only fixture during the trip on Friday.
