Barnsley vs Scunthorpe Utd

Oakwell, March 8, 7.45pm

STAYING in the Championship last term seemed unlikely for Scunthorpe but it seems even more so this time around.

However, a recent string of good results including a win over danger zone rivals Sheffield United suggest the Iron have not given up the fight yet.

The loss of Glandford Park’s fortress status has hit Scunthorpe hard but an improvement on the road has kept their hopes alive. Without a single away draw, any trip seems win or bust for the Iron.

STANDING between the sticks for Scunthorpe has been an unenviable task over the past couple of seasons but Joe Murphy has risen to it with aplomb.

The former Tranmere and Sunderland keeper has attracted much praise in his five years with the Iron, to such an extent his a firm feature of the Republic of Ireland squad.

While the 29-year-old is behind Shay Given and Keiren Westwood in Giovanni Trappatoni’s rankings, he remains one of the best keeper’s in the Championship.
