Barnsley vs Derby County

Pride Park, March 5, 3pm

TREADING water seems to have been Derby’s policy since dropping out of the top flight in 2008.

But now it looks as though the Rams are sinking under the burden of that.

Being involved in a relegation scrap would be something of an underachievement for the Derby squad.

But last Saturday’s win at fellow strugglers Sheffield United was their first in nine and they had not won in seven at home prior to Tuesday night.

IT appears that Nigel Clough may be entering his final chapter at Derby County.

His appointment in 2009 looked like a fairytale one, given he was following in his extremely successful father’s footsteps.

Unfortunately, Derby’s recent form suggests a happy ending will not be forthcoming for the 44-year-old.

A 10 year stint at Burton Albion laid the foundations for the Brewers’ ascent into the Football League and former Nottingham Forest and Liverpool striker Clough’s rise up the managerial ladder.
