Barnsley have signed striker Mike Phenix from Conference Premier club AFC Telford.

Manager Danny Wilson swooped to sign Phenix today on a two-year permanent deal ahead of the club’s League One clash with table-toppers Bristol City this weekend.

Wilson has been looking for a target man to help his other four strikers – Sam Winnall, Kane Hemmings, Leroy Lita and Devante Cole.

And in the 6ft1 Phenix, Wilson believes he has got just the player he has been looking for.

“I’m chuffed to bits to have joined,” reflected 25-year-old Phenix. “It’s a bit overwhelming to be honest.

“It came about last night. My manager [Liam Watson] told me about the interest and it was a no-brainer.

“It all happened overnight and was a bit mad! I just thought I’d go for it and hopefully I can bring some success.

“I was used to training on Tuesday and Thursday nights, but now I’m looking forward to training every day and getting as fit as I can.”
