Chelsea loan striker Alex Kiwomya could make his debut for Barnsley in Saturday’s home clash with Yeovil.
The Reds host the Green Army at Oakwell this weekend looking to bounce back from back-to-back defeats in their last two matches.
And 18-year-old Kiwomya could be thrown straight in at the deep end with boss Danny Wilson hungry for his side to pick up a much-needed win.
“I’m young, I want to express myself and show what I can do,” revealed Sheffield-born Kiwomya, the son of Huddersfield Town fitness coach Andy.
The highly-rated teen is also the nephew of former Ipswich striker and Notts County manager Chris Kiwomya.
He added: “Danny Wilson is the perfect manager and it’s the perfect time for me.
“I’m really glad to be here. I know a couple of the lads. I’ve played with Ross Turnbull and I know Mason Holgate.”
Kiwomya has joined the Reds on an initial one-month loan spell until 2nd February, but Wilson hasn’t ruled out trying to extend that deal if the youngster does well.
And Wilson could do with Kiwomya sparkling with star striker Sam Winnall still sidelined with a hamstring injury and Manchester City loan marksman Devante Cole having returned to his parent club after a successful spell at Oakwell.
“We’ve tied up [defender] Peter Ramage until the end of the season and we’ve also got Alex as well, so that’s been a good return for us so far,” said Wilson.
“The experience of Peter is paramount in what we’re trying to do here and with young Alex, well he offers us pace and the goalscoring prowess that we’re looking for.
“Hopefully he can bring that into League One with us.”
Hull City loan defender Joe Dudgeon and Fulham duo Ryan Williams and Marcello Trotta have also finished their loan spells with the Reds, so Wilson is working hard to recruit new players now the transfer window has re-opened.
The club have been linked with a move to sign Blackburn midfielder John O’Sullivan.
O’Sullivan, 21, is a Republic of Ireland Under-21 international and has had previous loan spells with Southport and Accrington Stanley.
Meanwhile, the Reds’ postponed clash with Oldham Athletic has been re-scheduled for Tuesday 2nd February, 7.45pm kick-off. The club have revealed that tickets purchased for the original fixture are valid for the new date.
