Back to business after San Siro trip

After returning from a successful trip to the San Siro Stadium with a Sheffield FC veteran’s team, it was down to the business of strengthening the squad this week for boss Ian Whitehorne as they look to mount a push for promotion from the Evo-Stik League One South.

Whitehorne has landed defender Stuart Ludlam, 27, from Worksop Town along with Dan Williams and Callum Harrison; both returning for a second spell with the club.

The Club boss said; “Luds is just the type of player we need, a born winner who has vast experience. We have a lot of young lads so it was vital we added someone who knows the game.”

Striker Williams returns to the club after a spell with Shirebrook Town while Harrison rejoins following a spell overseas.

“I’m pleased to have Dan and Callum back with us,” said Whitehorne. “Dan was a fans’ favourite in his last spell and I was sad to see him go. He is a big no-nonsense centre forward and he will bring something we don’t have.

“I don’t think he got the chance he needed last time but he has played a lot of football since he left us and has scored plenty of goals and is chomping at the bit to get started. Callum has the ability to be one of the best midfielders in this league and indeed the one above.

“He turned down the opportunity of joining a Premier Division club to come back which shows his loyalty and commitment. He has had his time away but it’s time to knuckle down now. I’m sure he will play a big part in the coming season.”

More signings and set to follow one of whom could be Jack Muldoon, who enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Dronfield from North Ferriby United scoring 14 goals in 26 appearances.

* Worksop Town have made three signings in Gainsborough Trinity midfielder Shane Clarke striker Tom Mullen and midfielder Jack Barnett.

* Russell Eagle has named his backroom staff at Worksop Parramore. Eagle, who stepped down as manager of NCEL Premier rivals Parkgate last week, has appointed Louis Axcell as assistant manager with Leon Wainman first team coach.
