DONCASTER Knights skipper Matt Challinor is hoping that the Castle Park club can build on their battling display against Bedford Blues a fortnight ago in Sunday’s testing Championship clash at Nottingham.
“I was pleased with the performance against Bedford, but disappointed with result,” said the second-rower. “To lose 22-21 to the last kick of the game was a bitter pill to swallow.
“We had last weekend off, which gave us the chance to recharge our batteries, but I would have preferred us to have had a game because you want to get it out of your system when you lose in that fashion.
“I know that people will say that we can take some consolation from running the second-placed team so close and that we should have beaten them, as was the case in the game against the Pirates. but we still lost.
“I know that there are a lot of games still to come but we aren’t happy with our current position at the bottom and we want to climb up the table as quickly as we can.
“We know it is going to be tough at Meadow Lane because Nottingham don’t lose many games there, But we beat them down there in the B & I Cup and although they weren’t at full strength at the start they brought a lot of players on during the game.
“We won the forward battle that night and I’m sure the’ll be looking to restore their pride. “
Despite changes in the coaching structure at the club this week. Challinor says the squad have remained focused and will travel down the M1 in confident mood.
