Clive Griffiths has called in a big gun to help the Knights bounce back from relegation to National One.
The club have unveiled former Rotherham Titans tight head prop Ross Davies as their first summer signing.
Director of rugby Griffiths has worked with the 29-year-old powerhouse before and it is believed that previous relationship helped convince Davies to turn down offers from elsewhere.
“I worked with Ross at Ampthill and saw the quality and type of player he is,” Griffiths said.
“Also former Welsh international prop Stuart Evans speaks highly of him and that is a great reference to have.
“He is renowned for his scrummaging, but he brings a lot more than that around the park.
“He is a good leader and really enthusiastic which will benefit the other lads in camp.
“Hopefully his teammates can feed off it and his appetite for the scrum is unrivalled.
“Tight-head prop is one of the most important positions and the signing of Ross, who is not just Championship standard, but pushing Premiership, illustrates the kind of player we want at Doncaster.”
The 120kg prop featured regularly for the Titans last season.
Davies is a former Wales international at U18 and U21 level where he featured in a Grand Slam-winning side.
A highly promising career which took Davies to Sale and the Ospreys was hampered with a fractured fibula and ligament damage.
He bounced back well, starting at Ampthill in National Three where Griffiths was rugby consultant.
