And director of rugby Clive Griffiths has praised his players for digging deep in their 19-10 victory.

“They are a good side but they hadn’t brought their Class A game with them but their Class B game,” said Griffiths.

“Unfortunately we had played our Class C game in the first half.

“I told the players that if we could get near to our Class A game in the second we could win and we did. The boys showed a lot of character.

“Obviously I’m delighted with the result. Sometimes you’ve got to go away from the game you want to play and we really had to graft.

“We spoke at half time about changing the way we had played in the first half when we had allowed ourselves to be sucked into playing the game they wanted us to play. I wanted us to not only move the ball about more but to run harder and re-cycle quicker.

“At 10-6 I told the players the next score would be important and it was.”
