Doncaster Knights: Bristol in a different league to us financially - Griffiths

They may both be plying their trade in the Championship but Bristol are in another league compared to Doncaster Knights when it comes to finances, says Clive Griffiths.

Knights’ director of rugby claims that that the collective contracts of the Bristol front-five on duty against his side tonight at Ashton Gate will probably be equal to that of his entire squad.

Griffiths says it is a similar story when it comes to the respective backroom squads.

“We’ve tried to get as many players on board within the financial budget we’ve got so basically we are operating with myself, Glen Kenworthy (forwards coach), Paul Cooke (backs and skills coach), Dougie Flockhart (fitness coach), a physio and a part-time physio,” he said.

“Both Kendo and Dougie are also members of the squad so we are basically killing two birds with one stone as some other clubs are also looking to do.

“More important than numbers is getting the right mix within your backroom staff and I think we’ve got that.

“Paul only works part-time but he puts in all the hours he can,” he added.

“When he first joined us last season I worked with him watching and helping him, though I didn’t interfere.

“Now he goes off on his own with the players.”
