Graham Clark (60) and Anthony Fitzgerald (55) passed their half centuries for Outcasts but they fell just short in an exciting run chase.

Matthew Mellers had Ian Marland caught by Graham Clark for twelve with the total on 19 as Cleethorpes looked to set a target, but Callum Carter and Nathan Judah then put togerther a stand of 61 before Carter was caught in the deep by youngster Tom Barkwer off the wiley Ian Fletcher for 34.

Judah soon followed when he was stumped by Oliver Coulman, again off Fletcher when within four of a half century. Lewis Markham was going well until home skipper Whiteley bowled him for 36 and a smart catch from Anthony Fitzgerald saw Richard Woodward out for three, giving Graham Clark his first wicket of the day.

John Mansfield was a victim to Whiteley’s slower ball, bowled for 28 but from then on Meggies skipper Paul Hewstone (15no) and Simon Taylor (28no) took their teams score past the 200 mark, ending on 213-6 in their allocated overs.

The Outcasts reply began reasonably well before James Glew was out caught by Simon Taylor off Ken Meech for 13 before Fitzgerald and Oliver Coulman took the total to 83 with some decent shots and confident running between the wickets.

Coulman had made 14 when he was caught by Richard Woodward off Taylor, who had another wicket when David Hobson was adjudged to be LBW in the same over which left the Isle side on 83-3.

Fitzgerald brought up a deserved half century but just when he looked set for a big score he was caught by that man Taylor off Andy Severn for 55 and the momentum of the match was swinging in the visitors’ favour.

Russell Fletcher hit a terrific boundary before he was bowled by Taylor with the total on 100 and Taylor picked up a second wicket in his final over of the game when he trapped Tom Barker.

Clark reached a very impressive 50 and between them they took the overall score to 179 before Whiteley hoisted the ball high into the overcast skies and was well caught by wicket keeper Paul Hewstone for 29.

Clark was then bowled by Ken Meech for 60 after which the game closed with Outcasts on 197-9.
