KIDS are risking their lives, trying to access a historic monument at Wombwell.
Reckless youths have invaded the former Broomhill brickworks, where a landmark chimney (right) has been dismantled.
Wombwell-based Sgt Phil Jenkinson warned: “This is an old, unsafe environment that could collapse at any time and cause serious injury.
“People must keep away. Youths are trying to get through an old wall to the kilns, but the whole area is highly dangerous.”
Police have contacted Barnsley Council, who ordered the demolition of the chimney, about the problems.
The chimney came down just weeks ago in a costly special operation that involved dismantling the unsafe structure by hand.
