The world premiere of Shadow Game, a new work by dynamic young composer Charlotte Bray composed especially for the opneing of Cast, will be perfomed at Doncaster’s new performance venue on Saturday, February 8.
Music in the Round will also present music by Beethoven’s Septet, Elgar’s Serenade for Strings and Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture at the same concert.
The piece by Charlotte (pictured) has been commissioned to bring together four of Britain’s best instrumentalists - Ensemble 360’s flautist Juliette Bausor, clarinettist Matthew Hunt, horn player Naomi Atherton and cellist Gemma Rosefield, alongside highly regarded Doncaster amateur orchestras, Beechfield Youth Orchestra and Boyce Chamber Orchestra.
The piece gives a fresh take on a centuries-old musical tradition – the ‘Sinfonia Concertante’, a style much-loved by Mozart and Haydn, which allows a group of soloists to combine with an orchestra and dazzle with their collective virtuosity.
Charlotte Bray has emerged as an outstanding talent of her generation and was recently listed as one of the Evening Standard’s top 1000 Londoners.
