Work has started on a development of 33 homes across Doncaster as part of an ambitious £10 million housing programme.
The council houses will be part of a programme to build hundreds of homes in the borough over the next two years.
The current building sites are on Lawn Avenue in Woodlands, Sherwood Avenue and Davis Road in Askern; and Broomhill Drive and Newlands Close in Cantley.
Doncaster Council’s deputy mayor, Coun Glyn Jones, who is the council’s housing spokesman, said: “I am delighted to announce these new homes for Doncaster which follow hot on the heels of developments beginning at Carr Lodge in Balby and the completion of homes in Bentley.
“Doncaster needs to build new homes. We have a large waiting list and growing population and for the general regeneration of the town we need to ensure that we build new properties.
“These homes are distributed across several locations in the borough and will be affordable, energy-efficient and fit for modern life.”
The homes – a mixture of one bed, two bed and four bed bungalows and houses – are being built by local company George Houlton and Sons Ltd across five sites and are set for completion in the summer of 2014.
All 33 homes will be available to let on the council’s choice-based lettings scheme.
