Doncaster on fresh flood alert as weather warning is issued for more rain

The latest warning – hot on the heels of storms Dennis and Ciara – is for persistent rain, heavy over hills, which may lead to flooding and travel disruption during Friday and Friday night.

The Met Office warns that there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

Further rain is expected across northern England on Friday. Rain is expected to turn persistent and occasionally heavy over parts of the Pennines before clearing early on Saturday. 20mm-30mm is likely to fall widely over higher ground with the potential for 60mm-80mm in a few places. Given the recent wet conditions this brings a chance of flooding.

Today’s forecast is cold and windy with sunny spells and blustery showers, with these showers heavy at times with a possibility of local hail and thunder. Showers are likely to become more widespread during the afternoon. Some snow is likely over hills. The maximum temperature is expected to be 9°C.

Tonight will be chilly with blustery showers becoming fewer and further between to leave dry conditions for many into the early hours, with winds also easing a little. Minimum temperature -1°C.
