The pair are team captains for the sixth annual Doncaster Business Cup, which takes place at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday (noon).

After weeks of training, two teams of local businessmen will go head-to-head for bragging rights on the pitch.

At the top of their agenda too is raising money for three local charities - Bluebell Wood, Firefly and Club Doncaster Foundation.

“Last year we went from raising on average £7,500 to £13,000, which was a phenomenal amount,” said Van Steen, of Axita Limited.

“It was a wonderful game and we’re hoping to take it up a notch again this time around.

“We’ve got some great sponsors on board, people like Crown Hotel Bawtry, Nuffield Health, Xercise4less and Doncaster Knights, and it should be a fantastic day.

“Team Van Steen lost out to Team Plant last year so it’s our turn to win it. No one team has retained the Doncaster Business Cup, so it’s my turn this year.”

Sharp, of BJS Solutions, has replaced Dave Plant as captain.

He said: “We’ve got a good bunch of lads who have all been involved in the Business Cup before, so we’ve got plenty of experience and we’ve also got some very accomplished footballers.”

Former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Ricky Ravenhill is set to line up for Team Sharp, while Free Press sports writer Paul Goodwin is in the Team Van Steen squad.

Tickets, available on the day, are £5 for adults and £3 for children.
