VIDEO: Fancy footwork in the Isle

Keeping fit is easy when you are dancing with others to live music....

So say young-at-heart friends Kate Hendry and Heather Leary, who never miss the Isle’s dance for health sessions run by Epworth’s Peter Barnard.

Accomplished dancers Heather, 77, and Kate, 84, both of Epworth, recommend the events, aimed at the over 40’s, that take place in venues such as Crowle Community Hall and Epworth Imperial Hall.

Participants learn dances at a steady pace and are accompanied by live folk music over two hours, with a break for tea and chat part-way through.

Mrs Hendry said: “I married a Scot and used to do quite a bit of Scottish country dancing. My daughter and I both lost our husbands within two years and I moved here to be with Lynn.

“Heather introduced me to the Isle dances and I really enjoy them. They are great value at £2.”

Keen gardener Mrs Leary said: “I noticed a difference in fitness since taking up dancing. It’s good mind exercise too, remembering your steps, and we do go wrong at times...”

She added: “You don’t realise you’re exercising because it’s good fun.”

Those attending the dances don’t need to have a partner or any experience in country dancing.
