Two areas to lose citizens’ advice bases

TWO Citizens’ Advice Bureau service points have been axed, due to the loss of their funding stream.

Popular weekly sessions were provided by Barnsley CAB at both Wombwell branch library and Thurnscoe Health Centre.

But the funding that was provided by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust has now expired and there is no other alternative funding source that has been identified at present.

Barnsley CAB said that over the last financial year alone, the service in the Barnsley area has helped numbers of up to 1000 people to deal with a wide range of problems.

These can vary from financial matters to advice over family or legal issues. Trained advisers either give guidance themselves, or point to the relevant services that would be able to help.

Anyone who currently needs help in knowing how to deal with a situation, should go online or make a telephone call to advisers.

Log on to or call the advice line on 08444 111444.
