Firefighters extinguish M18 chemical fire

A chemical lorry blaze near the M18 in Doncaster, which raged on for a number of hours, has now been extinguished.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed the blaze had been put out by the three fire engines, who attended the incident.

The lorry had paint cannisters on board, which resulted in a number of explosions.

The fire service were called out at around 11am to the blaze.

The fire resulted in the closure of Junctions 3 and 4 for over two hours.

Speaking this morning, an eyewitness said: “As I drove past I could see a lot of black smoke, and large flames too.”
