Work to upgrade Rossington level crossing to the most modern standards starts

The crossing will be closed between Friday 27 March 2015 at 22:00 and Monday 06 April 2015 at 06:00. A diversionary route will be in force which will take traffic from Station Lane to/from Gattison Lane, Clay Flat Lane and Stripe Road.

A 24 hour mini bus service will be on standby for pedestrians throughout the duration of the closure. In addition, to minimise disruption, Doncaster Council will undertake some road re-surfacing works from the level crossing to Grange Lane on Monday 30 March 2015. An enhanced road diversion will be in place during these times.

Paul Rutter, area director for Network Rail said: “Wherever possible we are seeking to remove level crossings and replace them with bridges or underpasses in order to improve safety for everyone which uses the railway. We continue to work with Doncaster Council and other stakeholders to see if that is possible at Rossington. However the equipment in this crossing needs to be renewed in the meantime in order to keep it reliable and prevent failures which could cause significant disruption to both rail and road traffic. Road closures will be required in order to complete this work safely. I thank local residents and businesses for their patience as we complete this essential upgrade.”

Peter Dale, Doncaster Council’s director of regeneration and environment, said: “We are coordinating essential re-surfacing works on West End Lane to tie in with Network Rail’s crossing renewal work to minimise disruption in the future. These works will significantly improve the experience for road users.”
