Town council objects to Epworth takeaway plans

The application was submitted by Mr Shao Bin Xue of Harris Gardens, Epworth last month who is seeking permission to change the former Elan Motors car showroom at 88-90 High Street into a Chinese takeaway.

And in documents released on their website this week, the town council has stated that it objects to the application being approved due to the property being ‘unsuitable for a change of use to a takeaway as there is no provision for additional parking (double yellow lines on the highway outside the property).’

Additional congestion in the A161 traffic lights area already subject to delays and tailback of traffic and fumes and smells from bins in a residential area have also been cited as reasons for the objection.

Coun Liz Redfern (pictured) said she intends to speak on the issue at an upcoming planning meeting.

She said: “I will be speaking on behalf of the many residents who raised concerns with me on the issue.

“People are concerned about the traffic situation it could cause, as well as the smell that could come with it.”

“I want to let people know this is something I am going to speak on, and inform the council of the issues with it.”

A number of residents have already taken their concerns to North Lincolnshire Council.

Submitting her objection to the council via email, which is available to view on their website, Susan Hardacre wrote: “Do we really need another take away in Epworth?

“The whole of Epworth will become obese.

“Parking around there is already awful. I hope you will see sense in this matter and refuse it. Let’s get something more useful rather than another eating place, Epworth is full of them already.”

Paul and Patricia McCaig have also voiced their concerns via email. They said: “The location of the premises is extremely close to the traffic lights. These cross-roads are a historic accident black-spot and traffic congestion is already problematic enough.”

A decision on the application will be made at a planning meeting later this month.
