Doncaster Council is reminding residents about changes to bin and recycling collections over the Christmas period.
Councillor Christine Mills, who is the Cabinet Member for the Environment and Waste, said: “We recognise that for many people Christmas means visitors, Christmas dinners, presents and extra waste in their black bins.
“To help accommodate this extra waste we have a number of additional black bin collection weeks over the holidays, though due to public holidays there will be no collections the week commencing 23 December.”
Much of our extra waste at Christmas can be recycled, so residents are being encouraged to use their green box for things like cans, bottles and cardboard.
Should you have more recycling than your box can hold, Household Waste Recycling Centres across Doncaster will open daily during the holiday season except for 25 and 26 December and 1 January and residents can also make use of a number of recycling sites in locations such as supermarket car parks across the borough.
Councillor Mills added: “During the holiday period you may find that your collection isn’t at its usual time due to the extra waste crews are having to collect and potentially icy conditions.
“We are working with SITA, our waste collection contractor, to draft in extra resources over the holidays to minimise disruption and this may mean that you see different types of vehicles collecting recycling around the borough but please be assured that it will all be separated after collection and recycled.”
