COLLECTION boxes were stolen after thieves broke into two charity shops over the weekend.

The first break in happened between 5pm on Saturday and 9.40am on Monday when intruders got into the Arthritis Research UK Shop at the Colonnades shopping precinct and stole a bright orange charity collection box with their logo on.

The second break in happened a few doors away at the British Heart Foundation between 4pm on Sunday and 9.20am on Monday when the thieves smashed the glass in the shop door to get in before stealing a cash bag.

The manager of the British Heart Foundation shop said: “I’m absolutely discussed by what has happened, I hope the people that have done this can live with themselves.

“The amount of money it is going to cost to replace the glass door, could have been spent on equipment to save peoples lives.”
