The bridge across Thorne Road between Clay Lane and Edenthorpe has been hit by a series of engineering delays and disruption since work started nearly two years ago.

Now the road will be closed again this weekend and three more dates during May for water works to take place.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Water said: “At the start of April we began work to divert a clean water main on behalf of Doncaster Council.

"The works will take a little while to complete, as there are lots of smaller pipes that need to be connected to the main, but we hope to be finished in early June.

“In order to complete the work, there will be some temporary lane closures and we’ll need to close a small stretch of Thorne Road on Sunday 25 April and 9, 16 and 23 May.

"We know how inconvenient road closures can be, so our teams will be working through the night in order to cause as little traffic disruption as possible. The road closures will be in place from 4pm in the evening until 6am the next morning.”

The footpath will remain open but the road will close.”

The bridge was replaced earlier this year as part of a major scheme to widen the carriageway and create a faster route into Doncaster town centre from the the West Moor Link at Armthorpe.
