SUICIDE VERDICT ON MAN IN WOOD

A SOUTH Kirkby man found dead in woods committed suicide, an inquest has concluded.

John Allport, who was 50, was discovered in Howell Wood, near Clayton, in the early afternoon of Tuesday, November 21, by a prison officer out walking his dog.

Despite an emergency phone call by the officer at 12.41pm Mr Allport had died instantaneously after hanging himself from a tree.

Coroner Stanley Hooper said that he had been made aware of Mr Allport's unhappy domestic history, and that the carer also had a history of sleeping rough.

When the inquest opened on November 24 Mr Allport's niece, Joanne Black, said that her uncle had left her home on Park Estate in South Kirkby at about midday.

He had spent a couple of nights at his sister's house but prior to that was sleeping rough in the bike sheds of South Elmsall train station after leaving his marital home he shared with Tina Allport in South Kirkby on November 15.

Mr Hooper recorded a verdict that Mr Allport had killed himself.
