Detectives trying to trace the owners of a number of distinctive watches, which are believed to have been stolen, suspect some may have come from Rotherham.

Around 20 watches of various makes, including Seconda, Timex and Rotary, were seized by police in Torquay on April 9.

Officers also seized a number of unusual items including a Rone watch guarantee certificate, a Zippo lighter with a Civil War motif, a lighter/cigarette holder with a sovereign of Africa and a Camel lighter in the shape of a packet of cigarettes.

It is thought that the items may have come from Torbay,Plymouth or Rotherham area.

A 32-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man from Rotherham have been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

PC Brian Guntrip said: “These items must hold real sentimental value for someone and we hope the owners will come forward.

“It would be a great shame if these items are kept in a police store when we are sure someone would love to have them back.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Brian Guntrip at Devon and Cornwall Police on 101.
