South Yorkshire students' joy at Royal visit
The Princess Royal had visited nearby Ulley Sailing club – which has recently been refurbished – before her helicopter took off from Aston Academy’s playing field in Swallownest.
Associate principal Rebecca Hibberd said the school was ‘delighted and honoured to be chosen’ to be part of the princess’s visit to the area.

“They were very involved and very excited.
“She drove to the back of the school and the students and staff lined the road.
“We are part of the Aston Community Education Trust so we had people from all our academies here.
“Princess Anne arrived at lunchtime so all the students and staff came out and were waving flags.
“Our executive head Eunice Newton and a student from Thurcroft Junior Academy, Niamh Jones, presented her with a bouquet before she left.”
