Staff at Gooseacre Primary Academy were pleased to receive a letter from MP Nick Gibb earlier this month.

The letter follows the publication of the latest Key Stage 2 results which show that 79 per cent of children achieved the expected standards in reading, writing and maths. Progress scores in each of these subjects are also significantly above the national average, which is more than 20 per cent less at 53 per cent.

Mr Gibb wrote: “Your school is amongst the top three per cent of schools in England in terms of the progress your pupils make between Key Stage 1 and the end of Key Stage 2 in English reading, writing and mathematics.”

The minister then thanked the headteacher of the school, which is run by the Reach4 Academy Trust, Kay Godfrey.

Addressing her directly, he said: “Thank you for your hard work and professionalism in producing such high standards and congratulations again to you and your staff for all you have achieved.”

Kay Godfrey said: “This is such a fantastic achievement for our children and our community.

“Everyone has worked so hard, and that work has paid off. We want every child to have the absolutely best possible education during their time with us so that they are fully prepared to move on to secondary school to develop their talents further.

“To be in the top three per cent of the country is very special, and we are delighted that those efforts have been recognised by the Schools Minister.”
