South Yorkshire call centre evacuated due to ‘chemical incident’

Staff at a call centre in Wath-upon-Dearne have been evacuated this evening, following reports of a suspected chemical incident. 
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are currently in attendance at a suspected chemical incident at the Capita call centre, located in Brookfield’s Park on Manvers Industrial Estate, Wath-upon-Dearne.

Crews were called to offices at around 7.50pm to reports of people sufferring the effects of nausea and eye irritation.

Appliances have attended from Dearne, Cudworth, Mansfield Road, Mosborough and Central stations.

A SYFR spokesman said: “The building has been evacuated and fire officers are now inside monitoring the air quality to ascertain a cause.

“We are working with our partners in the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, who are checking people over at the scene. Currently nobody has been taken to hospital.”
