Family fun was the name of the game as visitors flocked to the annual Thorne Moorends Summer Festival.

Thorne Memorial Park was the venue for the weekend event which included train rides, dance displays, stalls and plenty for young and old alike to get involved in.

A spokesman said: “The event was a huge success again this year and we look forward to working with the Summer Festival Committee in the coming months ready for next year’s extravaganza.”

Mayor of Thorne Richard Walker was among those at this year’s event.

He said he thought people had enjoyed the event over the two days.

“If the weather is good it is a great day out for the youngters. The glee is there on their faces if the sun’s out, and the memorial park is a great location for this event

“There has been so much effort put in by people getting it ready.

“There is always so much fun to be had with the Thorne show.”

He said he hoped some of those who attended had given the town centre’s economy a boost by using some of the shops while they were out.

Attractions this year included a fairground, with rides for children, as well as a number of stalls by high- profile organisations.

This year they included Thorne Rural Lions, the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity and the Friends of St Nicholas’ Church.
