THE boss bore the brunt of the fun when a Doncaster town’s supermarket organised a fun day for charity.
The fun day and tabletop sale organised by members of staff at the Co-operative store on High Street in Bawtry was successful in raising more than £800 for their chosen charity of the year, which is Mencap.
Management at the Penny Farthing public house in Bawtry High Street agrred to allow their large car park to be used for the event.
Customers at the Bawtry store and businesses in the town generously donated prizes for the tombola.
Helping the event to go with a swing was local broadcaster and disc jockey Gareth Evans.
Stacy Denham, Team Leader of the Cooperative shop and chief organiser of the event, said afterwards: “The day went very well considering that it is the first time we have organised anything like this.
“We did not have a huge turnout as hoped for but we did very well all the same. We managed to raise £827 for Mencap, which is the UK’s leading learning disability charity working with people with a learning disability and their families and careers.
“We still have some money coming in. Everyone had a good time and the stocks proved to be particularly popular.
“Our store manager Lyn Hunter proved that she is a very good sport by taking a real soaking.”
