BAFTA and double Olivier award winner Sheridan was last at Menier Chocolate Factory in 2006 for Little Shop of Horrors. Previous theatre performances include Hedda Gabler, The Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Into the Woods and Flare Path.

Along with the mass of mopers who missed out on seats for the December 2 to March 5, 2016 show, were a few who cannily snaffled tickets in the early hours of the morning.

On facebook, Gilly Langley gushed: ‘Good job I stayed up to book - 40th birthday present to myself.’

Not so Mark Sedgley who added: ‘There goes my chance of meeting you any time soon. Well done though Sheridan that’s brilliant news!’
