Rotherham United may be hit with a points deduction after the Football League charged them with fielding an ineligible player in the club’s Championship match with Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday, April 6, which the Millers won 1-0.

The player in question is 18-year-old Nottingham-born Farrend Rawson, who arrived at New York stadium on loan from Derby County on “a 28-day youth loan.”

The matter will be heard by a Football Disciplinary Commission which will take place at “the earliest possible opportunity to ensure that it reaches its conclusion before the end of the current season.”

United say they’re not commenting until after the hearing.

There are suggestions the probe will centre on whether the club was able to get the Football League to sanction a deal extension in time for him to take a place in the match-day roster.

Rotherham are in 21st spot and are battling to dodge relegation from the Championship and so any points penalty could have massive implications.

Betting group bet365 have moved Rotherham 9/1 Into 11/4 for the drop.
