It took him only 14 years and 382 league appearances to reach a personal landmark he’ll never forget.

Rotherham United centre-half Danny Collins has scored 15 goals in a career which began back in 2001 with Chester and has taken in long spells in the Premier League and Championship.

But the one he grabbed against high-flying Reading at AESSEAL New York Stadium on Tuesday to earn the Millers a 1-1 draw was the first he’d ever managed with his feet!

“It was a strange one. I was saying to the boys in training the day before, we were doing set-plays, that I’d never scored with my foot,” he grinned

“I’ve never had one just drop to me in the box. I was thinking of just putting it back in there but I had a swing at it and it’s gone under the keeper.”

Now the 35-year-old is ready to pass on his new-found expertise and has a major target in mind.

“I got hold of it, to be fair,” he added. “I might have to do a bit with the boys in the striking department in training now and pick up the Golden Boot at the end of the season!”
